2005 - My year in summary…

This is my first year out of university. One of my biggest challenges this year is constantly remembering that university was just a stepping stone. I really enjoyed my time at university and the lifestyle that I lived. My schedule was in my hands. The demands were obvious but I could meet those demands how I wanted to. I could study when I studied best (in my case between 11pm and 2am). I could wake up and go to the gym when I wanted. Living was cheap and worries were few. At the end of every year I had peace knowing that I still had ‘next year’ to make things right and to improve. But now I’m out of uni.

I had a shaky start to the year. I left a company that I had been with for 2 years and moved to a mining company. I stayed there for 3 months and moved to my current company – an international engineering company. I have been here now for 8 months. I really enjoy it, especially the people that I come in contact with.

I got engaged to the most beautiful girl. We are planning to marry in September next year in Indonesia. It struck me on Christmas day that this will be the last Christmas that I am a single man. Next year I will be a married man doing married couple stuff.

My Christian walk was shaky at times. I have been battling to maintain control and not slide back to the old and easy way of life. That old way of life is the one that shouts every day “Live for yourself. Be materialistic. Sex is cheap and easy. Work to make a lot of money so that you can have a great lifestyle.” These lies are totally against the plan and will of God for every human life. God calls me (us) to live sacrificial life. To me pure hearted. Loving. Tender. Caring. Always giving. Praying. Blessing. Letting no foul things come out of our mouths. Encouraging others. Being sexually pure (only have sex within the sanctity of marriage). Not to get drunk. Not to be violent. But to always seek justice for the oppressed and to his hands and feet on earth. Showing people that there is more than this life. There is more than what you can touch and feel. Our God is a Holy and righteous God who demands that justice be done. He wants every human in heaven – but this can only happen by repenting of your old way of life and trusting that Jesus Christ has already payed the price for the sins that you and I committed. I want to be a person who preaches this message. This will mean that I will lose friends (which has already happened). People don’t like to be confronted. But it is out of love for people that I preach this message to them. I know that God gives a life much more abundant than that life which they live for themselves.

Anyway, back to the topic…

My Indonesian is steadily progressing. I went to Indonesia for the first time and I liked it. I left Metro and moved to Riverview. I lived in 3 different locations (Student Guild house until February, Applecross until March, and now South Perth until I get married).

My biggest challenge this year is learning that I am a human. I am subject to mistakes. It is pride that causes me to beat myself up so much. I feel that I should be in complete control. I ask myself… how could I do such stupid things? But that is wrong thinking. Every human is subject to similar weakness. We all make mistakes. Repent and move on. It is wrong that I should expect so much from other people. I should not put my confidence in people. I should love them while knowing that they are prone to failure. Only God is fully trustworthy. God is the one who does not change. It is God who needs to be my anchor. Though I am weak, God makes me strong. Without God I (and you) are nothing. He replaces our ashes with crowns. He replaces our sorrow with Joy. God is always faithful and will answer those who love Him and honor Him.

Once again, I’ve gone off topic. Well actually… no. I am right on topic. God is the theme of my daily life. It would be wrong for me to neglect what God is to me when recounting my year. God has been involved in my everyday life. He has lifted me up. He has sustained me. He has given me endless opportunity and ability. He has restored me and He never leaves me.

I like what the psalmist says about God… While King David was envying the gain of the wicked and questioning his own pursuit of righteousness, he came to an understanding that the wicked have only one end. After this realisation he said “I was like a brute beast before you God. But nevertheless you are still with me. You hold me by my right hand”.

A flood of Gods Spirit is going throughout the earth. God is doing something amazing in the hostile lands. Christianity is growing in China, Indonesia, Africa, the Middle East. We are living in the greatest times ever.

Next year I hope to grow more in every area. I hope to be an expert in my work. I hope to quickly advance in bahasa Indonesia. I hope to build stronger relationships with those around me. I want to be someone who people can turn to knowing that I will be a true friend to them. I want to improve relationships within my family. I want to grow closer with Gayle everyday. I want to build my relationship with God everyday. I want to put Him first. I want every decision to be made with a deep awareness of God. I want to show more people that truly Christ saves.

God bless you all.

Indonesia's Shame - Stop the injustice! Stop the executions!

Ibrahim B., December 17, 2005 www.IndonesiaWatch.org Urgent action needs to be taken now to avoid a serious miscarriage of justice. The execution of Fabianus Tibo, Dominggus da Silva and Marinus Riwu must be stopped to allow time for justice to prevail.

IndonesiaWatch has been carefully studying the case against three men on death row in Central Sulawesi, the Court proceedings and it is clear that there are some serious problems with this case:

1. Evidence was presented by a series of witnesses, both Muslim and Christian that vindicated Fabianus Tibo, Dominggus da Silva and Marinus Riwu.

2. Evidence that was offered to prove the guilt of the accused was surrounded in emotional lies at a time when the newspapers had already named and convicted these men. One example was the evidence that airplanes and helicopters were supplying weapons to Christians in Tentena and Kelei. Not only was there no longer any airport in the area, but if such flights were undertaken, how come the radar of airports in Palu, Makassar, Luwuk and Manado had no such records. Where could they have come from? America? How ridiculous. Such information was accepted rather than the testimony of those who vindicated the three men.

3. Every week of the trial Islamic masses tried to storm the prison vehicles and kill the defendants and even their lawyers were at risk. The masses called out that if the three men were not convicted, then the masses would take law into their own hands and even the panel of judges would be executed. Such intimidation on the court defiles the process of justice.

4. The injustice of this case is even more obvious when one understands the history of what happened in Poso. At Christmas 1998 and Easter 2000 there were massive Islamic attacks against the Christian community burning down homes, churches, shops and killing the innocent. One girl killed was a maid at the Pentecostal church. She was chased by the mobs to the river. She tried to run across the bridge. Others came at her from the other side so she jumped into the river. She tried to swim ashore but machete wielding men slashing at her kept her in the river till she drowned. There are many other such incidents. But who was arrested? Why have not the murderers of the Christians been arrested? It was the failure of the Government, the military and the police to protect the Christian minority that forced the Christians to have to protect themselves. The three men are only on death row because they dared to try and defend the Christian community in the third round of attacks in May-June 2000. The masterminds of the first and second attacks, and the Government, police and military officials who failed in their responsibility should be held accountable before any responsibility should be laid at the feet of those who only wanted to protect their homes and families.

5. There is an evil rumor afoot that the execution of these three men has been hastily brought forward to balance the impending executions of the Bali bombers. It is also to show “balance” and “fairness”. If only the Islamic bombers are executed the Government runs the risk of being accused of being unfair and even anti-Islamic. So to balance the books, execute the Christians as well. This is grossly unjust and must not be allowed to proceed. The underlying causes of the Poso tragedy need to be thoroughly investigated before any executions take place. In the name of justice, Stop the Executions!

6. The timing of these planned executions is all wrong. Since the three men were arrested, tried and sentenced to death there has been an unrelenting attack against the Christian community. With these three men charged and sentenced to death and with none of the perpetrators of the many killings, bombings, assassinations and burning and looting of Christian villages from 2001 to 2005, arrested, tried and convicted, the timing is all wrong. The Christian community already feels betrayed by the Government, military and police who they feel are allowing a slow genocide to take place. It was once claimed that these three men were the instigators of the violence, but in Christmas 1998 and Easter 2000 these men were not involved. They did not instigate the attacks against the Christian community. They only became involved in May 2000 in the third round of attacks in order to defend their community against a genocide to which the government, police and military were closing their eyes.

Furthermore, after they were arrested, how could they have been behind the following events in the area:

i. New Year’s Eve bombings of five churches in Palu

ii. The burning down and looting and killing in the villages of Pantangolemba, Betelemba, Saatu, Masani, Tangkura, Dewua, Sangginora, Mayumba, Beteleme, Sepe and many others. These attacks even used Government owned trucks to carry the jihad warriors, used a Government owned Kerosene Tanker to spray the homes of Christians as they travelled back and forth on a narrow road, the only road, and the police and military said they saw nothing.

iii. The frequent withdrawal of police and military who were protecting Christian villages an hour before the village was attacked. The community knew that if the police were withdrawn it meant their village was about to be attacked.

iv. The government – The Provincial Governor and the City Mayor both publicly, and reported in the news media, welcomed the Laskar Jihad to come and participate in Poso.

v. Assassination of Pastor Susanti while preaching in her church.

vi. Assassination of Chief Justice Silalahi on his way home from Church.

vii. Assassination of the Synod Treasurer of GKST churches with his nephew.

viii. The bombings of the Omega and Antariksa buses killing many passengers

ix. The killing of an Italian on his honeymoon, Lorenzo Tadei, on a bus travelling to Tentena.

x. The Laskar Jihad inspection posts where Christians were dragged from their vehicles and executed.

xi. The Tentena market bombing killing 24, seriously injuring another 56.

xii. The beheadings of three school girls - Theresia Morangke, Alfita Poliwo and Yarni Sambue.

xiii. The shooting in the face of two schoolgirls – Ivon and Siti in Poso.

xiv. The shooting of Novlin Pallinggi and her husband Pudji Laksono on their way home from church.

xv. The assassination of the two witnesses to who was behind the Tentena market bombing, Mr. Budiyanto and Mr. Sarlito and the police officer investigating the bombing, Detective Agus Sulaiman.

xvi. And many other incidents that have occurred since the three men were arrested, tried and sentenced to death.

In the face of all these unsolved attacks, murders, lootings, assassinations, bombings, terrorism, how can it be just to single out three men who were forced to defend themselves, their homes, their families and their community, and then to execute them?

Stop this injustice! Stop the executions!

My Allignments (from Psalm 16)

I just came across this in my card wallet... taken from a message at church earlier in the year...

Towards help
Towards blessing and away from lack
Towards health in life and relationships
Towards answers (what I do know) and away from questions (what I don't)
Towards growth
Towards strength - not weakness
Towards what's right with a thing - not what's wrong with it
Towards largeness - not smallness
Towards vision - not the past

We are all responsible for our lives. Through the many bad choices that we make, there is always time and opportunity to make the right choices. In all of the right choices that you make, God supports you. In all of the wrong choices that you make - you can not exhaust God's love and grace. He is able and willing to forgive you.

I also read this in a book that I'm currently reading...
"Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny"

I need to live on this stuff more and more every day.

Thus is my life...

Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up... Walk a little bit... Fall again. Get up. Fall. Get up. Fall. Get up...

When and how will this cycle end?

The whole world is in His hands

My view of God is that He is strong to deliver and mighty to save. But I don’t always trust in that. I take my eyes away from God and focus on current circumstance too often. These are some scriptures that I need to learn…

When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze. (Isaiah 43:2)

My God has the whole world in His hands. He has known my name and my life. He has known me in the evil I have done and in the good. In spite of this He still calls be blesses and loved. His promise for me is that He will always be with me. He will keep me.

Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)

Whether I am in Australia serving God in my office, or in the jungles of the Philippines, It is God’s will that I fear no evil. He is with me here as He would be with me there. The same God, the same promise.

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you;
he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." (Deuteronomy 31:8)

God’s will is that I walk confidently and boldly in all situations, knowing that He (the one who holds all power) goes before me and goes with me. I’m a servant and child of the King. An ambassador of heaven.

This is what the LORD says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,
"Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:16,18,19)

Though I make mistakes every day, say and do wrong things, God redeems me. His forgiveness is for today. Christs sacrifice was sufficient. He wants me to come to Him daily to confess and repent (turn away from) my sins. God’s future for me is bigger than my past. When I look at situations that I see as being too tough, or that I am insufficient to succeed, God makes the way.

Business in JKT

Things about Jakarta that caught my attention the most?..
  • the friendliness of the people who serve. in shops, restaurants, hotels, everywhere... people just want to make you feel comfortable.
  • the genuiness of my colleagues. My indonesian colleagues are genuine in their relationship with eachother. In the west, we generally have an atmosphere of "we work togethor therefore we must try to get along!". In Jakarta, the atmosphere among my colleagues was "we are friends who work togethor!". They always have time for you, no matter how busy they are. they always want you to have a good time as well. It was much appreciated.
  • the poverty that affects 60% of the population. To see moms breastfeeding their children on the side of the road while beggin for money. To be stuck in traffic and have people coming to your car window asking for money.
  • having to constantly be aware of your surroundings. the fact that you can not talk on your cell phone in the car in some areas because gangs will rob you when you are stuck in traffic.
  • the obvious seedy underground of the city... (I won't go into this here)
  • the traffic. there is always crazy traffic whereever you go. you dont need a seat belt because your always travelling so slow.
The things I like most about JKT...
  • The shopping...
  • The food...
  • The service...
  • The friendliness...
  • There are NO FLYS!..
  • The city is always moving...
The things I disliked most in JKT...
  • The food poisoning that I got on the last day...
  • The old ex-patriates who were always surrounded by young girls... If you are married, be faithful to your wife.
  • The traffic wears you down after a while...
  • If I wanted to play outdoor sports, it would be difficult because of the pollution...
Things that I learnt...
  • Work is more than working to make a dollar... it is about relationships. Everything is about relationship.
  • We are so blessed to call Australia home.

di Jakarta

I love Jakarta. Wow... what an amazing city. I don't have enough time to write about what I am doing and what I have seen. Here it is in short...
  • eating... very good food (the joke is now I know why indonesians never do any work, rarara)
  • shopping (i just spent AUD70 and got authentic Gucci belt, Ralph Lauren shirt, and 3 other casual and business shirts all authentic brands)
  • I went to the largest Mosque in Indonesia and then across the road to the largest Cathedral
  • Went to the tallest building in Jakarta to eat on the 46th floor
  • work is great. I love working with orang-orang indonesia
  • the traffic is crazy... but i feel somewhat safe in it
  • the people here are soooo friendly... they always want u to feel comfortable
  • tomorrow i think i am going to bar/club
  • people smoke everywhere here
  • entire families ride on one motorbike
  • people have a unique ability to ignore every traffic light and there is no 'right of way'
  • there are street vendors on every single street
  • the pollution is bad, but i think i prefer that over the flys in perth (hmmm thats a tough one)
  • imagine the population of australia squeezed into one city. traffic never stops. people are always out. restaurants, cafes always full. shops open until 10pm every night (2am on Friday) and contrast that with the fact that the majority of this city live in poverty.
  • I love the Indonesians and this city is awesome. I wonder if I can ex-pat here.

Catch up

I’m off to Jakarta this week. My trip was postponed last Sunday.

Engagement party last Saturday. It went really well. We all had a great time. Thank you to every one who came and made the day really special. Special thanks to my house mates who got up so early to prepare.

I’m still growing the mo for Movember. Its coming along nicely.

My work schedule is quite full. Trying to build a Time & Expense server this week. Spent most of the time troubleshooting. Still planning the Lotus Notes migration to Microsoft Sharepoint portal and K2.NET.

I’ve been at the gym every day after work. Trying to get back into shape. I’ve been such a slacker since I left uni.

Housemates are doing well. Our schedules ensure that we stay out of each others way a lot of the time. We all get along great.

Music that I been listening to on my iPod lately: Aaliyah, Alicia Keys, Switchfoot, and Frank Sinatra (he’s cool man).

Gayles doing good. She’s studying for exams (her Masters), working full time, and still has time for me… she’s so strong. When I was in my final year at uni I was working 30 hours a week and studying. I didn’t have time for anyone.

International Day of Prayer - November 13, 2005

In Iraq, Africa, North Korea, the Philippines, and around the globe, Christians are beaten and killed, churches burned, and laws passed to restrict worship. Christians today face as much persecution as ever before. Jesus said his followers would not receive better treatment than he did, but he did promise the Comforter. Through prayer, we can encourage those suffering for Christ's sake. To pray knowledgably, read these articles and reports about Christians suffering for their faith. (from Christianity Today magazine)

Coffee

I have always enjoyed good coffee, but lately I am developing a rather strong penchant for it. I do not tolerate poorly made coffee which seems to be the fad among most of Perth’s café’s. I won’t even buy coffee from the city during morning rush hour. The “baristas” are always so flat out that they don’t even care whether they burn the milk or just give me coffee flavoured water. However, one café that continues to do well regardless of what location I go to is Cino’s to go. I might try King St Café today. I have heard good things.

Cell Group

I went to cell group last night for the first time in ages. My cell leader and his wife are Malaysian, and most of the people who attend are Malaysian. There is also a Filipino couple, and 4 other Australians (including me). The cell leaders parents are here from Saba in Malaysia. The father (Uncle Kong) likes to talk. He spoke about persecution that he suffered in the 1970’s when there was no protection of religious freedom. He was a government official. Muslims in Malaysia attempted to convert all of the Christians to Islam during this time, promising them high-ranking jobs, security and protection. He watched as many of his colleagues and people from the community buckled with fear and converted. He remained steadfast. He said that although he did not reach a high-ranking post in the government, he is content and has been greatly blessed by a loving family, he is very healthy and fit and looks surprisingly young.

Uncle Kong spoke of how he resisted the temptation to become corrupt (which is apparently common among government officials in Malaysia). Every day he prayed for Christ’s strength. He put his faith in God that he would live an honest life even if it hurt, but God would bless him. When people bought him bribes, he rejected the bribes but yet often did the job anyway to display the love of God. He encouraged us to remain faithful to Christ in the face of all obstacles. Christ is faithful and will reward those who seek Him.

More violence in Poso, Armed men shoot two female students in the head.

It is just over a week since three female Christian students in Poso were decapitated. Now, two more have been shot in the head in the same area.

I am lost for words when I read of such brutality being perpetrated against innocent children. I can only look to my God and believe that He will bring justice. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19) and “But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” (Luke 6:27-28).

How can I love and pray for people who just want to kill and destroy. My flesh tells me that it is justice to repay them with the same punishment. But the bible contradicts everything that I think and feel. The measure of Gods love for us is beyond comprehension. Forgive us God when we act as the world acts. Teach your children to put there faith entirely in you. You seek the salvation of ALL mankind. Who are we to take revenge? As you forgave us, so help us to forgive others.

Today so far... vaccinations

I just had to get immunised by our company doctor. I needed 5 injections. I am now immunised against Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Influenza, Tetanus/diphtheria, Measles, Polio, Hepatitis B (although I need 2 more shots). I saw on beyond tomorrow a new invention that blasts the vaccines under your skin. Yay! No more needles. The doctor told me that, realistically, this will not be available for a few more years. No complaints though. Because it is paid for by the company, it saved me about $300.

Just eating a hot chilli sub for lunch and it’s taking its toll on my mouth. I’m gonna get a drink and do some work now.

Singlish

When I was at Curtin uni studying I was surrounded with this peculiar and interesting language that has, strangely enough altered my already odd sounding accent and way of talking. It is called Singlish. Many of these phrases have woven there way into my every day dialogue and have often caused others to question my ethnicity.

Singlish originated with the arrival of the British and the establishment of English language schools in Singapore. Soon, English filtered out of schools and onto the streets, to be learned by non-English-speakers in a pidgin-like form for communication purposes. After some time, this new form of English, now loaded with substantial influences from Indian English, Baba Malay, and the southern varieties of Chinese, began to be learned "natively" in its own right. Creolization occurred, and Singlish then became a fully-formed, stabilized, and independent English creole. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singlish)

This weeks wrap up

This week has gone by fast. A lot has been happening around the world, at work, and in my own life.

3 beautiful young girls, Sisters in Christ have gone home to be with our Almighty, caring and loving father, YAHWEH. They were brutally beheaded by Islamic extremists who want to wipe out Christianity from Poso in Indonesia. It is more proof that truly the devil hates Christs beloved. But we can never hate the perpetrators of these crimes. We can only hate the sin. God’s will is that ALL be saved and come into the knowledge of Him. Pray for the nation of Indonesia. Pray for your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you. By doing this, then you will become more like Christ.

I had my performance appraisal at work. It was terrific. I was asked what direction I would like to head in our company. I would like to do 25% Business Analyst work and 75% systems development work. My boss was cool with this and is going to help me achieve my goals. I will be the main apps developer in our Perth office but will be a virtual member of the Jakarta office. One of my goals was to improve my Bahasa Indonesia, so my boss is keen to send me to Jakarta frequently to work with the team over there.

I bought a new digital camera. Pentax Optio S6. You will start seeing some random photos up here soon. For breakfast I had an apple and a long macchiato. I am very unsatisfied right now. I might go and get a muffin.

I picked up my fiancées engagement ring and I planned to surprise her. However, it didn’t work out as I would like it too. I had taken photos of the ring on my new digital camera and forgot about it. Later that night I took Gayle out to dinner where I was going to surprise her with the ring (she didn’t know when I would pick it up). But before I could pull it out and slip it on her finger, she saw the image in the digital camera and squeeeeeled. Argh… I am bad at surprises.

I am currently reading “Mao – the untold story”. I will post some quotes from this book over the next few weeks. The Chinese people suffered much under this man. His ideologies were completely self-centred and evil. Under his regime, it is estimated that more than 90 million Chinese died as a direct result of his brutal and stupid policies. His personality cult saw him elevated in the eyes of the Chinese to “God” likeness.

In other news, health experts and international governments are preparing for an Avian Flu pandemic. This could occur when the deadly H5N1 virus swaps genes with the common influenza suffered by humans and will then become quickly spreadable by human-to-human contact. Australian cities have dedicated hospitals that will take in patients. Australia also plans to shut their boarders if this occurs.

New anti-terrorism laws were passed, allowing police to detain suspected terrorists without charge for up to 90 hours. I am in full support of these laws. The government is also trying to pass it’s new Industrial Relations laws. I do not believe that these IR laws will benefit Australian society, but could have the effect of crushing many Australian families who are already struggling under low income and high working hours.

Now in the midst of all this – where does our confidence lay? Is it in us? It shouldn’t be – our flesh is weak. Is it our careers? It shouldn’t be! Recession can come in an instant and leave you unemployed. Is it your family or your friends? It shouldn’t be! They are all human, and all humans are susceptible to failure. Put your confidence in the LORD. He never fails. God is our rock. If you build on God, though the strongest storms of life will come along, you will still stand in the end.

I read this in yesterday’s devotion: “A writer in India describes how he sat on his veranda one day and noticed a vine that had reached its delicate tendrils up and across a void until it had grasped the branch of a pine tree. That night there was a fierce storm. The following morning the vine had become a poor drooping thing with its stems hanging downwards because the branch to which it had been clinging had broken in the storm. The vine had fastened upon a rotting branch instead of a strong healthy trunk.” The writer in my devotion then stated “There are some Christians…, who fasten themselves upon something other than Christ – a denomination, a religious rite, a custom, or even a person. A storm comes and down the go because the fastened on to the culture surrounding Christ rather than Christ Himself. When men and women hold on to the central reality – Christ – they toughen, rather than wilt, under adversity.”

Okay, and the last thing that I want to do in this long entry, is leave you with these scriptures from Psalm 91 (segments)… God bless you all.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."

If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-

then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

"Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honour him.

Movember

I have been roped into participating in Movember.

MO BROS & SISTAS – LETS PUT THE MO BACK ON THE FACE OF AUSTRALIAN FASHION!

Each year 2,600 men die from Prostate Cancer, more than the number of women who die from breast cancer.

The aim in '05 is to have 2,600 Mo Bros – a mo for every bro that dies.

The rules:

  1. Once registered Mo Bro's must start 1 Movember clean shaven.
  2. For the entire month of Movember each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache according to these rules:
    1. There is to be no joining of the mo to side burns - that's a beard
    2. There is to be no joining of the handlebars - that's a goatie
    3. A small complimentary growth under the bottom lip is allowed
    4. Failure to conform to any of these rules may, at the absolute discretion of the Movember Committee result in instant blacklisting from further participation in Movember and entryto the Gala Partè.

Disclaimer: The Movember committee accepts no responsibility for lost jobs, lost girlfriends, rashes to you or your partner or any other such mishaps caused by a Movember mo.

What sort of man grows a Mo

  • He’s a man with a love for life and with a lot of living to do.
  • He’s the first to be invited to a party and the last to leave.
  • He’s a man with confidence, a leader not a follower, he sets the trends that others follow.
  • And when he takes off on a unique experience count on him taking a full bodied thirst quencher along. For his golden moments are often enhanced by a golden thirst.
  • He’s a great bloke, a great mate and a great lover.
  • He stays true to the Mo.
I will try my hardest to do the mo proud. Now I need to find people to sponsor me. From my department, 5 guys will be participating. This is for a great cause.

Christian Teens Beheaded in Indonesia

Please don't be blind to the persecution happening in Indonesia. This is one of the saddest incidents I have heard. Please pray for the families of these 4 beautiful girls. Also, offer a prayer for peace. Pray that the Christians will not retaliate with violence, but will respond as Christ and the martyrs responded.

"In what one Indonesian human rights activist describes as the latest attack in an ongoing terror campaign against Christians of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, three teenage girls en route to school through a cocoa plantation were beheaded Saturday morning, apparently by Muslims...

Theresia Murangke, 14, and Ida Lambuaga and Alfina Yarni Sambue, both 15, were attacked one mile from Sayo village near the town of Poso, reports Indonesian human rights activist Ibrahim Buaya, who formerly lived in this volatile region of Indonesia. A fourth girl, Noviana Malewa, 14, escaped from her attackers with machete wounds to her face. Buaya reported that she is in Poso General Hospital under heavy guard. The Associated Press reported that Noviana told police the six attackers wore black shirts.

Two of the girls' heads were found near a police station five miles from the village of Poso. The head of the third was left in front of Kasiguncu village's Pentecostal Church of Indonesia (GPdI), eight miles from where the bodies were found in the cocoa plantation." Lessons from the life of Joseph

My pastor preached a good message yesterday morning and drew lessons from the life of Joseph. Joseph’s story is quite amazing and was particularly encouraging to me. Joseph came from a very obscure family. Joseph was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and was then falsely accused of rape and thrown into prison. Joseph helped people in prison and he was forgotten by all of them when they were released. So now, here is a man who has been forgotten by the whole world. He is rotting in a prison cell. He is forsaken by his brothers and those who he had helped. And through all of this, he had been smeared with an accusation of rape. But above all of this, Joseph rose to become the Prime Minister of Egypt. Looking at it from a human point of view, Joseph was doomed. He had no hope and no chance. How was he able to get to the position that he did? Here are some lessons for all of us:

  1. Bloom where you are planted (Be the best that you are wherever you are!).
    • What God defines as success and what we define as success are two very different things. We define success as happiness and financial prosperity. But here is Joseph, a slave with no resources, in our eyes Joseph was not successful. But the bible says that as a slave, Joseph was successful at everything that he put his hands to because the Lord was with him (Genesis 39:1-4). As a result he found great favour in the eyes of his master Potiphar and was put in charge of Potiphar’s household and was entrusted with everything that he owned.
    • The lesson – If the Lord is with us, we are already a success.
    • Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men. (Proverbs 22:29)
  2. Don’t become bitter. Become better!
    • By all human standards, Joseph had reason to be bitter. After interpreting Pharaohs butlers dream, he asked that he would remember him when he was released. The butler forgot all about him. 2 full years had passed with not so much as even a mention of gratitude from the butler who had been released. Then when Pharaoh had a problem, the butler was reminded of the young Hebrew man in the dungeon (Joseph) who had successfully interpreted his dream. Pharaoh then sent for Joseph.
    • Joseph could have come out of prison with this mindset “Oh, now they need me. Well I will let them know just how I feel about being kept in prison.” Joseph however refused to become negative or become a cynic. The bible says that Joseph shaved and changed his clothes (Genesis 41:14) and came before Pharaoh.
    • Joseph chose to leave the jail completely behind. Although he was in jail and people had let him down, He did not allow his circumstances to affect who he was.
    • We have all met people like this and have often behaved like this ourselves, we want everyone to know what a crappy time we have had. We carry around the stench of our circumstances and affect the mood of every one around us.
    • Here is the lesson – Don’t let the smell of prison follow you throughout life.
  3. Make friends with your destiny.
    • Matthew 5:9
    • Destiny is not a solo journey. Were ever you go or end up in life, there will undoubtedly be people. We were created to live in community and peace with others.
    • Note: Making peace is not the same as finding peace. Forgiveness takes one person. Conflict resolution takes two. If you have unforgiveness in your heart, the most affected person is yourself.
    • The early church had to make peace with the apostle Paul. Before he had his encounter with Christ, Paul (formerly named Saul) killed Christians. Because the early church made peace with Paul, he was able to go on and become perhaps the greatest apostle to ever live.
    • Lesson – Be a peacemaker!
  4. Be ready
    • It’s too late to prepare when opportunity comes.
    • You will always be better off serving even if you don’t think it is where you should be serving. It is easier to steer a moving car in the direction it should go, rather than if the car was not moving.
    • Joseph was not necessarily gifted as an administrator. This was a skill that he learnt in prison. If Joseph just sat back and did felt sorry for himself and did not work, he would have totally missed the opportunity that came to him.
  5. God is bigger than any circumstance
    • You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. (Genesis 5:20).
    • Look to God at all times. Nothing is too hard for God. Nothing can separate us from Gods love. As believers we are successful through our God, regardless of the circumstances around us.
    • Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6).

That is a summary of the message based on the notes that I took. I hope that you find some help and encouragement from it. You can read Josephs full story from about Genesis 30:24 to Genesis 50:27. I encourage you to read it. So many lessons from life can come out of it. Our God is faithful. We are much loved. God bless you.

Unity in Diversity

I have a quote running through my mind but I do not really know what it means. “Unity in diversity”. I actually think that it is the stance that the Indonesian government took in trying to quell religious violence and protests. Due to human nature it seems that diversity brings anything but unity. People are either afraid of what they do not know, or they are simply instructed to murder those who differ from them (the latter is practised by a group of militants belonging to a particular religion, both will remain anonymous). The first is easier to deal with.

You just need to educate through the media and in our schools. The media does not seem to do the best job in encouraging unity however. They scare the crap out of most people and have us paranoid looking for non-Caucasians dressed in big jackets carrying backpacks on our buses. Why doesn’t the media put the focus on racial issues. Do you know that there are racist groups in Australia right now recruiting in our schools! Young kids are joining nazi and skinhead groups because they find acceptance there. Not because they necessarily hate non-Caucasians. Where is the education there?

Christians… grab these kids before the racists grab them. Show these kids that they are accepted and loved. Show them that there is unity in diversity and that Gods love does not discriminate.

Media… stop inciting fear in our children’s lives and show them unity in diversity. Show them the truth about the refugees arriving in Australia. Show us the reasons why they need to leave their countries. Show us the struggles that we have in common. Australia’s mandate is to bless the nations. Media, catch up. Be a source of light to the naïve and arrogant. Report on truth. Not on fear.

Media… Don’t make the Indonesians stance on drug smuggling seem unfair. The Indonesians have seen what drugs are doing to our nation. They have seen the affects that drugs have had on the US. They are taking a brave stance. Don’t condemn them based on their stance toward morality. They are doing what they believe is necessary to protect their children.

As Christians we know that unity is essential in the body of believers (Ephesians 4:1-6). We know that as brothers and sisters we must love each other as Jesus loves the church. But in humanity let there be unity among everyone. People from different religions, different nationalities, different social groups, different classes. Gods love does not discriminate and neither should ours. Every single human being on this earth shares the same core desires. We desire safety, protection, eternal life (deep down), and most of all… we all desire Love. Do not let ourselves get caught up on the cosmetic differences.

When a suicide bomber blows him self up, it is because he is seeking eternal life and safety. He wants safety for his family culture. He feels that westerners and their “christianity” are threatening their very existence. So they react the only way they know how. Remember that our war is against what is unseen. It is against the principalities that we can not see. The devil and his demons that breed hate among God’s most loved here on earth. Our war is against that realm. Our weapons are not bombs or guns or any weapon made by man. Our weapons are mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. (Ephesians 6:11-17). Let us love and accept everyone here on earth. Be gentle as doves but as cunning as serpents. Let us get our hands dirty and stand and fight in the heavenly places. Let us take up our armour and our spiritual weapons (the Word of God) and destroy these principalities of hate and lies. Fight! Fight! Fight!

Gods love is for every single muslim on this earth. Gods love is for every one of every race. Gods love is for the drug smugglers and the executioners. Gods love is for us and for them. God does not desire that ANY should perish, but that ALL should come into the knowledge of Him and His love for them. And I promise that this will one day happen. “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14). But we must fight for it. Jesus Saves. He is the only way that broken and sinful man (which we all are) can be made whole and stand before our awesome God in confidence. Jesus took our punishment. He gave us life.

Let there be unity in diversity. God created us all uniquely. He created every people group. I love the diversity of this country. Let’s never lose that. Australia’s culture is being formed now. We are a young nation. What happens now will undoubtedly have a major affect on how our country is viewed in the future. Let us be an example to the world that unity in diversity works. Love one another

If you are deceived...

Islamic terrorists. You claim to serve God. You do not serve my God. My God is the God of all LOVE. My God made the greatest sacrifice of all. He gave His son to die for us. Through my God there is no more death but only life.

You murdered another 30 people in Bali on Saturday. Many who never knew God and will now not have that chance. You took their lives. But count yourself blessed that you are still here to receive salvation from the one true God. He will not take your life in return. He only wants your hearts.

How could you kill innocents you murderers. You may argue that no one is innocent, well look at yourself. Do not be deceived. There are no virgins waiting for you. Repent while you still can. God is love and He is well able and willing to remove all of your sins and accept you as a son. To love God means to love people. To hate those who God loves is a sin. You say Allah is great! He is. Allah akbar! But do not be afraid. You believe in God, believe also in Christ. Only Christ can forgive you. He is the One who redeems. He is more than a prophet. He is not God’s son by means of the flesh. He is God’s son by means of the Spirit. Christ was born through a virgin. There was no defilement. God had only pure love for you. He who was rich became poor for you. He who was a King became a servant to all. That is love. That is the nature of God. Test God on this. Ask God to show you the truth. He is faithful.

John 3:16 “God so loved the world that he gave His only son, so that whoever will believe in Him will not die but have eternal life.”

I do not condemn you and neither does God. The day of condemnation will come. But today is the day of SALVATION. Salvation is for all who will believe.

Love does reign.

Bali

The terrorists struck again. Please lift Bali up in your prayers. Let's stand togethor and hold our neighbour up before God. The Balinese are beautiful people who do not deserve this. I have been hearing stories that are causing me to believe that Gods hand is truly on the nation of Indonesia. God is love and God is life. The God who created us is the same God who paid for our sins through the death of His Son - Jesus Christ. He is definately not a God that encourages people to commit murder.

God bless the Balinese.

Sunday

Watched a message recorded at Hillsong conference 2005. The speaker was Reinhard Bonke. Reinhard is an evangelist.

Since the year 2000, he has seen 38.5 MILLION people come to the Lord in Nigeria. WOW!!! He is a very hot fiery preacher. He told of how certain churches in Germany asked him to stop preaching so loud. I love his response... "How can I pur like a kitten when I see what the devil is doing to the German people. I want to roar like a lion 'JESUS SAVES! JESUS SAVES! JESUS SAVES! JESUS SAVES!' I want the whole the world to hear me roar!" (paraphrased).

Went to church today. There is a very strong sense that revival is about to come. Hearts are expectant. One man from the Solomon Islands testified of an email sent to him yesterday by a pastor in PNG, who last week baptised 1,300 people in one day. That is exciting. If you are a Christian, be expectant. Throw off every thing that hinders and eagerly expect the miraculous.

Ambassador

am·bas·sa·dor (m-bs-dr, -dôr)n.
1. A diplomatic official of the highest rank appointed and accredited as representative in residence by one government or sovereign to another, usually for a specific length of time.
2. A diplomatic official heading his or her country's permanent mission to certain international organizations, such as the United Nations.
3. An authorized messenger or representative.
4. An unofficial representative: ambassadors of goodwill.
(The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition)

Points to note:
  • "A diplomatic official of the highest rank appointed and accredited as representative..."
We have the highest rank (Sons and daughters of the Most High). We are appointed (We are saved and called by God. Sent out into all the world. Given authority and weapons to cast down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of our God. And we are accredited (by the blood of Jesus).
  • "An authorized messenger or representative. "
We are authorised by Christ to preach the gospel, heal the sick, cast out devils, and basically see Gods will done on earth. We are official representatives. We should live the gospel. Reflect Christ. Glorify Him. Point all man to the Cross.
  • "ambassadors of goodwill". This one goes without saying.

Point to live: 2 Corinthians 5:20

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God."

No matter where. No matter when. We are all full time ministers. We have received the ministry of reconciliation. Saved by God and called by God.

Why good news?

The Gospel – why is it called good news? Well, the answer is simple. When the Gospel is preached, the Gospel happens!

The Verdict

Just in from Indonesia:
Just a brief note to inform you of the verdict in the case of three housewives - Rebekka, Ety and Ratna - who were charged with Christianization because they allowed some Muslim children to attend their Sunday School called "Happy Sunday". The children had the parents permission but the ladies, witnesses and judges were constantly under the threats of violence from hundreds of Islamic radicals who threatened to kill the three ladies, witnesses, pastors, missionaries and even the judges if the women were acquitted.

Today they arrived in 9 trucks and brought a coffin to bury the accused if they were found not guilty. Their violent threats continued in their speeches before the session began. When the Panel of Judges read the verdict finding the three ladies guilty of all charges and sentencing them to 3 years imprisonment, the crowd erupted with "Allahu akbar" or "Allah is Greater"

The ladies will appeal the verdict, but the question of justice under such intimidation is under question. Please pray for these three beautiful, gentle women who were just trying to help save the children of prostitutes from going down the same pathway.

The Crime of Teaching Sunday School

Alan Meyer posted this on philbaker.net...

These women deserve a moment of your prayer time today. A friend personally attended the final day of the trail of 3 Christian women in Indonesia, undergoing prosecution for the crime of teaching Sunday School.

Here is his first hand report of the event:
Before the case began the Islamic radicals took over the court for more than an hour, conducted an Islamic worship service and conducted a serious of speeches using a megaphone stating:
  1. If the three ladies are not found guilty or are given a light sentence then they have a plan and will bring Islamic justice and are willing to shed their own blood in jihad. They said it would be the sweet smelling blood of martyrdom.
  2. The three ladies would never be forgiven and would never be allowed to return to their village in peace.
  3. That they would wipe the smiles off the faces of the three women.
  4. That anyone who has stood with and supported the three ladies share in their guilt and would share in their punishment.
  5. That they were not afraid of the Christians because Islam is the one and true religion and is far more glorious than Christianity and it is backed up by the power of Allah.
When the proceedings began, the court today was relatively quiet with only a few murmerings and interjections of "Lies!" "Haram! (Unclean)".

The main points of the Defense were:

  1. The Prosecutor in his summation had listed all the witnesses and summarized their testimonies. However, several that were named as witnesses whose testimonies were quoted had not in fact testified, and had not even attended the case or been sworn in.
  2. That none of the witnesses had actually seen, heard or experienced the Happy Sunday program and had only presented hearsay reports and therefore there existed no evidence of any wrong doing.
  3. That no evidence was presented to prove the charge that they had "deliberately lied", "deceived", "forced the children to change religion" or that the children had attended "against their own will".or "without parental consent". Since noone had testified or provided any evidence that the 3 ladies had deliberately lied, used deception, forced the children to change their religion, that they had attended against their own will or without the permission of their families was not proved. Furthermore - all witnesses, including the Prosecutor had said they were still Muslims and had never changed their religion, and that the children had attended freely and with parental permission was proved by the photographic evidence of their parents participating in Happy Sunday activities.
  4. That the panel of judges should dismiss all charges, find the three ladies not guilty, and release them from prison.

As soon as the Defense finished, the Judges stated that the verdict would be announced next Thursday 10.00 am Jakarta time, and they then closed the session. As the radicals began leaving the court some began shouting "Allahu akbar" and "Baldy" of the chief judge, but their minders quickly quietened them and ordered them out and on to the trucks.

Now it is time for the intercessors to go really go to work as the judges sit down to make their decision and to write the reasons for their decision. Please mobilize people to pray as these dear sisters in Christ are facing the potential of 5 years imprisonment or if acquitted, the potential of being killed, having their homes burned down and their families attacked. Your urgent prayer support for the ladies at this time would be greatly appreciated.

Church on the weekend…

I had a fantastic time at church on Sunday night. I went to Bethany Church of God in North Perth. It is mainly and Indonesian church with the Sunday morning service given in Indonesian. The evening service is an international service given in English. It is made up mainly of Africans, Asians, and Caucasians. It really was something. The Africans worship like crazy. They are so pumped and energised. They dance and sing and shout for joy. Worship went for more than one hour. The preacher is also an African. He preached a fiery 10 minute message on John 14:1,6. He exhorted us not to fear anything that this world throws at us because our Lord is Jesus – the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Many people responded to salvation.

At 7.30 pm the Soweto Gospel choir performed and worshipped with us. They have been touring Australia from South Africa performing beautiful African worship. Oh my goodness… It was so encouraging and inspiring to see them. They were very tired since they had just come from a performance at His Majesties theatre. Some of them were losing there voice when talking, and no doubt they were very hungry, but it seems that they would not open their mouth to sing praise to God half-heartedly. Every single word from their mouths was so passionate. The tears that came from one of the choir members eyes as she was singing praises to God speaks a 1000 words. You could not help but dance and shout with them.

The Soweto Gospel Choir travel the world to raise money for Aids orphanages in Africa. They are doing such great work for our Mighty God.

God is good. Dia Allah baik.

Wipe out gambling in 3 days or lose your job!

City police chief Insp. Gen. Firman Gani has vowed to wipe out gambling and
other social vices in the capital within three days, much shorter than the
one-week deadline given by National Police Chief Gen. Sutanto.

If we continue to receive SMS messages or direct complaints from the public
or reports in media that gambling dens still exist in a certain area after three
days, we will replace that area's chief without an investigation or a hearing
process," Firman asserted during a coordination meeting of all police chiefs and
the city police's top brass on Tuesday.

Good on the Indonesian police for being so assertive about something that they believe so strongly in, but I wander what sort of techniques will be used in order to eradicate gambling within 3 days from a city of more than 18 million. Read the rest here...

Hillsong Conference

Hillsong conference started yesterday. I wish I was there. The atmosphere of 28000 like God praising people togethor under one roof is excellent. Not only that, but just letting the attitudes of the Hillsong volunteers rub off on you is so good. Hillsong is a great church with a big heart for the churches in Australia and impacting the community. God bless Hillsong and all delegates at this years conference.

Just another thought...

1) I read this today on http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2005/007/16.22.html and I must say that I agree...

In the heat of partisan politics (out of which many of these overstatements and misunderstandings arise), we are tempted to forget that the most potent political act—the one act that deeply manifests and really empowers a "kind and noble society"—is the worship of Jesus Christ.

In worship we signal who is the Sovereign, not of just this nation, but of heaven and Earth. In worship we gather to be formed into an alternate polis, the people of God. It is here that we proclaim that a new political order—the kingdom of heaven—has been preached and incarnated by the King of Kings, and will someday come in fullness, a fullness to which all kingdoms and republics will submit:

"I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. … The city does not need the sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the Earth will bring their splendor into it" (Rev. 21:2, 23-24).

Friday arvo thoughts...

Its Friday afternoon. I'm in the office working on a project (converting a web-based oracle system into a desktop client/server app). Well, I've done as much as I can for the moment. So now I will give an update of what has been happening over the past week...

I am enjoying having my Indonesian colleagues in the office over the past 2 weeks. They will be here for another week. They are all in there 30's, and are also Muslim. I like to talk to them and gain their perspective on Australian culture as well as discuss some of my own ideas about Indonesian politics and society. They bring a good atmosphere to this office. They always like to talk and laugh. They are good workers. I'm looking forward to visiting them in their office in Jakarta.

I bought some business shirts from Myers a couple of weeks ago and I am very dissappointed. They were on sale. the quality was extremely poor. loose cuffs, poor polyester/cotton mix, thick material etc... I told myself that I will only by quality from now on... that is, until I went to a little Boutique on Hay St and saw the price of quality... $250 for business shirts, $100 for ties, $139 for a scarf. Gak... they have gotta be kidding. I think I will wait until I go to Indo.

Rabu malam... I spoke about fruits of the Spirit at home group, concentrating on the gift of goodness. The main thing that I wanted to communicate was the difference between the works of goodness that any human being is capable of doing, and the gift of goodness which is given by God and by God alone. There is always a feeling of unworthiness whenever I speak to a group about the things of God. But I know that by faith... I AM IN RIGHT STANDING WITH GOD. All grace abounds toward me.

Kemarin malam... I saw Mr & Mrs Smith. I think it is good. I have heard mixed reports, but I enjoyed it.

Malam ini... nothing planned.

Besok malam... Young adults progressive dinner... Main course will be at my house. There should be about 25 people. I'm looking forward to it.

Minggu pagi dan Minggu malam... GEREJA... Yay!!!

GBU all :)

His Hands

Bombs destroyed a cathedral in World War II. A statue of Christ the Good Sheperd, with his arms outstretched fell forward, shattering the hands. The first idea was to get a renowned sculpter to repair it. However when the rebuilt cathedral re-opened, there were still just shattered stumps at the wrists. But there was a new inscription on the plinth: "He has no hands but yours."

Cells... continued

In my first post on this blog I spoke about the incredible complexity of a single cell. I have found a website that contains a logical diagram of this cell. Have a look...

Congratulations Chris

My friend Chris was officially commisioned yesterday as a High School Chaplain. It is true to say that I do not know a single person who is more suited and more passionate for this job.

Chris was a police officer for the WA police force for 5 years. He also began and led a youth group at Metro church that grew substantially in a very small period of time. He has a great heart for the young generation and it's clear to see that he has devoted his life to helping teens to be all that they can be in Christ.

The ceremony was good. It was held at Melville Church of Christ. Special guests included the Mayor of Melville - Katherine Jackson, Phil Stevenson, the principle of Melville Senior Highschool, and many of Chris's close friends.

We all want you to know that you have our support. God Bless you.

Articulate

I would like to be able to speak clearly and confidently about any topic. Regardless of how much I actually know. One technique that I have started using is to write down my thoughts clearly. I took this principle from Habakkuk 2:2 which says:

"...Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads
it."

For instance, one of my favourite topics of discussion is 20th century Chinese history. But the fact is, I don't actually know very much about the topic. So when I have 5 minutes free at work, I think of something that I have just learnt and I will write it down succinctly and clearly (no more than 1 or 2 paragraphs), including the facts that I'm aware of. I've found this very helpful and I am able to communicate it much clearer.

Work Prank

Okay, so it is my 8th day at my new job. My bosses have gone to Jakarta for the week and I am left alone the other new guy. I had completed all of my tasks and was wondering what I could do to fill the time... "I know" I said to myself, "I will pull a prank on Jeff." Jeff is my workmate from Hong Kong. He is not used to my sense of humour yet.

Here is the story. On our first day last week we ordered some stationary. 8 days later the stationary has not arrived. I asked the woman who orders the stationary to help me play a joke on Jeff. After our conspiring she sent Jeff an email similiar to this:

Jeff,

Daniel told me that you are getting impatient and want your stationary
immediately. I am quite busy and I do not appreciate the pressure. I will order
it when I am ready.

As you can imagine, this is not the kind of thing that you want to hear on your 8th day of work. Especially when you were not impatient for the stationary. He immediately stood up and said very loudly "I did not say that. Daniel is making it up!", where my accomplise responded very loudly with "I dont have time for this ****. I am busy ALRIGHT!". He then dobbed on me and my accomplise via msn to our boss in Indonesia. I thought I was rather funny & I was laughing quite loudly at this stage.

As I left work I could tell that he was already plotting his revenge. I wonder what he will come up with.

Jakarta Prayer Tower

This is very exciting. The Jakarta Prayer Tower is designed to be the tallest building in the world and is expected to be complete by 2007. It is being built in Jakarta, Indonesia. Have a look here...

Missionaries

It is so easy to get caught up in our own life. We each have our own calling and we work hard at following our calling often never stopping to think about our brothers and sisters around the world.

I am sitting here now in the comfort of my second story study looking out on the swan river. It is very cold and stormy outside. I am wearing a thick red hoody, typing on a new PowerBook G4 (not mine), and listening to Sante. I thought to myself, I am glad that I'm not outside. It is freezing out there. And then I was gently reminded of the 100's and 1000's of our brothers and sisters now in China, and other "restricted" nations, who are sleeping outdoors in sub-zero conditions evading capture from the police for their "criminal, anti-revolutionary" activities, or just living the same lives as those who God called them to serve.

Many of these people are displaced. No place to call home. Rejected by their families. Rejected by their communities. Not entititled to jobs or even medical treatment. Treated like the worse kind of criminals. What is their crime? Loving God and loving people. Obeying the call that God has given them. Unselfishly reaching out to those in need. Becoming despised. Thought of as foolish and crazy. Yet they persist. Joyfully pressing forward in the hope of our salvation.

The least that we can do as Christians is to keep them in our prayers, as the writer of Hebrews exhorted - "Remember the prisoners as if chained with them - those who are mistreated - since you yourselves are in the body also." Hebrews 13:3.

Cells

I saw a short film on Saturday night at Riverview. It was about cellular biology. It is the sort of film that is shown to first year Science students at uni. I was amazed at the complexity of the simple cell. I mean, it was in itself, a complex system similiar to a car engine. It had moving parts and cogs. One part spins at 190,000 rpm's to generate power for the cell. These same scientists who study these cells believe in something called evolution. They believe that these complex cells just evolved. Here is my issue with this...

Many of these scientists who support evolution have also set up large satelites in the quest for extra-terrestrial beings. Here is the basic foundation for the determination that an ET exists...
If while monitoring the air waves in outer space, they come across signals that form some sort of pattern, (i.e. series of prime numbers) they conclude that this can not simply be nature. Nature is chaotic and can not create intricate patterns. Wow!!! Yet they can look at a human body and say that it is simply the freakish result of nature... think about it.

The human body is the most intricately complex thing on earth. To think that it just happened, rather than was designed is perplexing to me.
